History
The history of Harvest Fellowship begins with the vision for a SBCV mission work in the Smithfield, Virginia area. In December of 2000 Randy Green followed God's call to serve as pastor of the proposed church plant, and began laying the groundwork for Harvest Fellowship as a staff pastor at sponsoring church Nansemond River Baptist. Over the next several months sixty-two members of NRBC committed to be a part of that vision, and on May 6, 2001 the first service of Harvest Fellowship Baptist Mission was held at Carrollton Elementary School. Harvest Fellowship's official "birth" was announced to the community with an invitation for all to join us for our Celebration Service on June 24, 2001.
Pastor Randy Green led the Harvest Fellowship family in reaching out to the people of Smithfield and surrounding areas with the goal of meeting spiritual as well as physical needs. As the Lord continued to bless Harvest Fellowship with steady growth of new members, He also led the church to purchase 23 acres of land situated on Battery Park Road in the heart of the growing Smithfield area. Renovation of the existing building on the property, the old "Smithfield Livestock Auction Barn," provided a more permanent "home" for Harvest Fellowship. The renovated facility now serves as the location for the church office and weekday ministries center.
In March 2005, Ronnie Bunch, a founding member and volunteer worship leader, was called on staff as Associate Pastor of Worship, and in October 2006, Art Stafford was called as Associate Pastor of Students.
On September 23, 2007, Harvest Fellowship constituted as a Baptist church when the membership approved and ratified the church constitution as part of a two day "Celebration of God's Grace and Provision" held at the Battery Park property. Harvest Fellowship Baptist Mission officially became Harvest Fellowship Baptist Church.
We continue to meet for Sunday morning Worship and Bible Study at Carrollton Elementary School, as well as providing several Bible study and ministry opportunities during the week at our offices on Battery Park Road. Harvest Fellowship is blessed to be a part of the work that is being accomplished as God continues to build His kingdom "one precious soul at a time."
